PFAS in Veneto Region waters
Since several years a wide area of Veneto is characterized by high levels of organic substances, called PFAS, found in water traditionally used for drinking. The issue emerged following a 2006 European project (PERFORCE) for a fact-finding survey on derivatives perfluorinated compounds across Europe, which revealed the highest concentrations of PFAS in the waters of the river Po. The reaction of the competent public bodies has been – in a first stage – too slowly, also because of the insufficient communication between the various national and regional bodies involved. Now it is crucial to manage the problem in a balanced way, withou underestimation and without alarmism. In our document we provide concrete indications in this regard.
