About

The Firm and its areas of practice

B&P Avvocati is a law firm founded in 1993, with offices in Verona and Milan. Since its foundation, the Firm has primarily operated in the fields of environmental law and health and safety at work.

Three fundamental choices have emerged from the specific nature of these areas:

1. The firm is organised in such a way as to provide comprehensive support to clients, both in out-of-court advice and in dealings with public bodies and private entities, as well as in legal representation before all courts (criminal, civil and administrative).

2. As technical issues are often decisive in strategic decisions and in the resolution of cases concerning the environment and safety, B&P’s professionals have gained extensive experience in the technical aspects of these fields. This enables constructive dialogue with state and regional environmental agencies, health authorities and technical consultants, who are key partners both within and outside the courtroom.

3. The constant evolution of legislation and case law that characterises our fields, and the consequent need for continuous in-depth study, has enabled B&P to develop, thanks also to collaborations with universities, a well-established expertise in specialist training for public bodies and private companies, through lectures and conferences, and to produce several books and numerous articles in the sector’s leading journals.

Governance and certifications

Since 2000, the firm has operated from its Verona office with a quality management system certified to the ISO 9001 standard. In 2018, we also obtained certification for our environmental management system in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard. We also support a number of social responsibility projects and fund university scholarships in the fields of the environment and occupational safety. The firm, comprising teams balanced in terms of gender, age and experience, ensures the inclusion and development of its staff, transparent career paths, the development of personal talents and a healthy work-life balance. Finally, in various cases, we offer pro bono training and legal advice, in collaboration with public bodies and trade associations.

Some guidance on the specific issues the firm handles

In the field of environmental law, we deal, amongst other things, with waste management and water treatment, sustainability and the circular economy, remediation of contaminated sites and environmental damage, atmospheric and odour emissions, permitting, energy, and greenwashing. We have acquired specific technical expertise in various sectors, including remediation projects and techniques, the management of by-products and ‘end-of-waste’ status, and the management of excavated earth and rock, as well as of marine dredging.

In the field of health and safety at work and employment law, we handle the drafting and review of contracts, personnel management (disciplinary proceedings, issues relating to the application of collective labour agreements), occupational health surveillance, and relations with trade unions and public bodies. We also assist companies in litigation arising from accidents and occupational diseases, and in the implementation, review or management of the Health and Safety Management System and related procedures. Finally, we have acquired extensive experience in highly specialised areas such as repetitive movements, manual handling of loads, exposure to asbestos or other carcinogenic substances, as well as safety in the management of internal contracts and construction sites.

There are also areas that cut across the fields of the environment and occupational safety, such as corporate governance, involving the development of relevant organisational models, the establishment of delegation of functions within companies, and participation in supervisory bodies of major corporate entities. In these areas too, some B&P professionals have over a decade’s experience.

Finally, B&P offers consultancy and legal assistance to companies developing applications of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems. For example, we have carried out studies and research on the following topics: legal aspects of self-driving cars with regard to legal liability in the event of an accident; assessment of environmental impacts (e.g. traffic-related emissions); assessment of the climate impact of industrial activities; applications of the so-called IoT (Internet of Things) to the occupational safety sector, with particular reference to privacy and compliance with the regulations on remote monitoring contained in the Workers’ Statute.
